Type A post.
Yes, new manga. Since B&N has everything but the 10th volume of Naruto, and since the 4th volume of Yotsuba&! hasn't appeared in-store yet, I decided to try new manga titles. Success rate? 50% (sadly).
- FLCL: I had high hopes with this one. Since the anime is apparently SOOOO popular because apparently it's SOOOO good, the manga version should be good as well, right?
WRONG! Honestly, the art style is SOOOO horrible that I SOOOO couldn't understand the fucking plot. And the humor? Next to nonexistent, or at least for me it was because the art style made the story SOOOO hard to follow that any possible humor that was there was lost in the confusing mess.
The good news? It's only two volumes, and the 2nd one was at B&N as well. Since I don't like to leave things unfinished, I'm getting that 2nd volume solely for completion purposes. Unfortunately, I'm not looking forward to purchasing (or my attempt at reading) it.
Thankfully, I read FLCL first, because it made this next one that much more enjoyable.
- Welcome to the N.H.K.: That's right, somewhere on my MASSIVE catch-up blog post was a list of manga titles I was considering on purchasing; now it's time to scratch off one of the names. I originally was considering purchasing this some time back, but the book wrapping over it and the 18+ rating left me to instead grab a safer title: LIFE (well, safer as in rating anyway). Since the 6th volume of LIFE doesn't come out for another month and a half, I have to rely on another touchy-subject manga in the meantime.
After going through FLCL, this was a BIG relief. Also, it's interesting just how psychotic the main character can get - I'm fucking tame in comparison. But other than his paranoid tendencies, his acquired "lolita complex" (thanks to his neighbor), and his questionable drug-use, Tatsuhiro Sato is basically a really REALLY extreme version of myself. Or at least that's what I'm understanding of him (there's still more volumes to be read). Honestly, his thought processes during the beginning of the first chapter when he meets the missionaries are VERY similar to what I would've thought in the same situation. Kick-ass (and quite pathetically sad as well). ^o^
Basically, I recommend Welcome to the N.H.K. and advise people to stay away from the manga version of FLCL.
That's all for now. Hopefully I can get the urge to do my Type C flood soon. If not, expect more useless posts like this one.
Till next time.
