The Birth of VH Nox

Type C post. No I'm not kidding.

Here's the history. After posting my "I can't express myself" blog post, I received a reply from the same person that I referenced. Strangely, the reply served as a kind of twisted source of inspiration for my fifth MIDI attempt. I promptly opened Anvil Studio and started putting down a tune that had conveniently just popped up in my head. Halfway through I stopped and listened to what I had so far.

I liked it. I actually liked it.

I promptly saved it, copy-pasted it to a different location on my computer, and listened to it on repeat for about an hour or so. Keep in mind that this was a 32-second song. I would eventually name this "Unfinished Addiction" because I was addicted to a song that I hadn't even finished yet.

The song in question - keep in mind that these are all direct links, so you should probably right-click and save it before you listen to it.

I would eventually finish the song, but unfortunately it didn't end up as good as I had hoped it would be. Nevertheless, it was exactly twice as long and was better up until the final quarter of the song (which wasn't so good). I saved it, copy-pasted it to a different location, and renamed it "Completed Addiction".

Download said song here. Remember: "right-click".

I later tried saving the song with an extended version. Unfortunately, the extended version ended up being horribly wrong. I saved it separately, copy-pasted it to a different location, and renamed it "Extended Addiction". Yesterday, I decided to rename it again to "Extended Addiction Alpha" so that in the future I could make a "Beta" attempt.

Listen to my first failed attempt here. Direct links FTW!

Recently I decided to download ModPlug Tracker. With more control over my songs I had hoped to make a better song than the "-Addiction" ones. After going through the tutorial and "finishing" the tutorial song I felt confident enough to make my own song.

My first attempt was a remake of my first MIDI attempt. Like the MIDI version, it didn't go very far. T_T

I don't really remember my second attempt, mostly because it ended very quickly.

I started my third attempt after a tune popped up in my head after I had woken up. "This is gonna be gold" I thought.

After two days it ended up being more like bronze, but I liked it. I tried to make it sound like the version in my head, but my lack of knowledge of how the program works prevented me from making something that extravagant. Nonetheless, the song isn't half-bad and I labeled the genre "Minimalistic Dance" in honor of my beatmaniaIIDX influences (which has such lovely genres as "Deceptive Gabba", "Human Sequencer", "Esoteric Slowcore", and "Buchiage Trance"). The actual name was hard to come up with, so I decided on "Piano Electronica" in order to finally export the song to .mp3 format (the original song is in .s3m format, which I'll upload if anyone asks). Quality sucks because ModPlug Tracker won't export to a higher bitrate, but I can fix that by exporting it to .wav format and convert it from there (something I didn't think of at the time - silly me). But I'll do that later. Maybe.

Enough talk, here's the damn song already. Make sure to save it first (aka "right-click").

"Viktor Hugo Nox" is officially born. And you can thank "person I referenced two posts ago" for that. ^o^

I now leave you today with VH Nox's logo. Lemme know what you thought of Piano Electronica, 'kay? :D

How come these songs don't have lyrics? Did you do all of em? I like the piano one but the other one is pretty fun too! Upbeat...the unfinished one that is. You need to sing in it. That would be good:-)
